Afterward, he drove the elephant ashore and loaded the boat with stones until it sank to the marked line. He then measured the weight of the stones. He told the government officials that the heaviness of the elephant equaled the weight of the stones. His father, Fredrick, nodded with a smile and told other individuals that Mathew had weighed the heaviness of the elephant.
